AC/DC – Back In Black -1980
There’s been some talk regarding the ol’ Aussie rockers of late as next month they’re releasing their first new studio album in years. They’ve put the core lineup back together (sans the late Malcolm Young) and it’s generated a bit of buzz.
It’s also got folks talking about the 40th anniversary of their greatest album, Back In Black.
Released one year after the tragic death of their charismatic front man Bon Scott, and one year on the heels of what was their best album at the time, 1979’s Highway To Hell, Back In Black was a game-changer.
With a track listing including Hells Bells, Shoot To Thrill, You Shook Me All Night Long, the title track, and a handful of other good tunes, Back In Black almost plays like a greatest hits album.
One of the knocks on AC/DC is all their stuff sounds the same. There’s no denying their sound is distinctive, and yes I’ll admit, it’s a pretty similar formula from one album to the next, but Back In Black was an album where it all just clicked. A true classic rock n’ roll album. It was certainly their masterpiece offering. It still holds up today.
